A long gun, such as a semi-automatic rifle or a pistol-caliber carbine, offers three points of contact: your shoulder, your cheek, and your hands. This inherent stability makes aiming far more intuitive and allows a beginner to achieve satisfying results much faster. If you want to build confidence and understand the basics of ballistics without the frustration of missing the black, a rifle might actually be your best starting point.
