Our facility is far from a typical shooting range. We are located in unique historic cellars with foundations dating back to 1341. These massive stone arches once served as the cooling cellars for the royal brewery “At the Holy Well.” Today, they provide a fascinating backdrop for modern shooting sports. This blend of medieval history and cutting-edge ballistic technology creates an atmosphere that you simply will not find in a standard modern range. The thickness of the walls and the natural acoustics of the stone vaults give every shot a specific character that you feel the moment you enter.
Before You Depart: Essential Preparation
One of the most frequent questions from beginners is whether they need their own firearms license. The answer is a clear no. If you do not have a license, Czech law allows you to shoot under the direct supervision of an experienced instructor. This instructor takes responsibility for your safety and guides you through the process step by step. The most critical item to bring with you is a valid form of identification. This can be your passport or a national ID card. Without identity verification, we cannot legally allow you onto the range, so please check your pockets twice before leaving home.
Choosing the right clothing is another important detail. Shooting is an active pursuit that requires movement and a comfortable, stable base. We recommend wearing a shirt or sweatshirt with a collar that fits relatively close to the neck. There is a practical reason for this. When shooting semi-automatic firearms, hot brass casings are ejected after every shot. If you are wearing a loose-fitting collar, a hot casing could potentially fall down your shirt. While not dangerous, it can be a distraction and cause an unwanted flinch. Solid, closed-toe shoes are also a non-negotiable requirement. You need a stable stance and good grip on the floor. Save the sandals, flip-flops, or high heels for another occasion.
Arrival and the Safety Briefing
As soon as you walk through the doors of Střelnice Sklep, our reception staff will greet you. After handling the necessary administrative tasks, you will be introduced to your personal instructor. Safety is our absolute priority and the foundation of our entire philosophy. Before you even touch a firearm, you will go through a detailed safety briefing. This is not just a formality. It is the key to ensuring you enjoy your time without any risk.
We follow the four universal rules of firearm safety that are recognized worldwide:
- Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded. This rule prevents the vast majority of accidents. Never assume a gun is empty until you have verified it yourself.
- Never point a firearm at anything you do not intend to shoot. The muzzle of the gun must always be pointed in a safe direction, which on our range means downrange toward the targets.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are on target. Your trigger finger should rest on the frame of the gun and only move to the trigger when you have made the decision to fire.
- Be sure of your target and what is beyond it. We only fire into designated areas at specific targets.
Your instructor will explain the mechanics of the firearms you will be using, showing you how the magazine works, how to chamber a round, and how to use the sights effectively. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. There is no such thing as a silly question when it comes to safety and understanding the equipment.
Gearing Up: Protecting Your Senses
Before stepping onto the firing line, you will be provided with essential safety gear. Hearing protection is critical. Shooting inside a historic stone cellar is loud, and without protection, the noise could damage your hearing. We use modern, comfortable headsets that effectively dampen the sharp crack of the gunshot while still allowing you to hear your instructor’s voice clearly. You will also receive ballistic-rated eye protection to keep your eyes safe from dust or any small particles that can be generated during firing.
If you have selected one of our themed shooting packages, your instructor will have the appropriate arsenal ready for you. For beginners, we often recommend starting with smaller calibers, such as the .22 LR. This firearm has almost no recoil and a quieter report, which allows you to focus entirely on your stance and aim without being intimidated by the “kick” of the gun. As you gain confidence, you can move up to legendary 9mm handguns like the Glock 17 or the Beretta 92 and experience what it feels like to shoot real icons of the firearm world.

When you finally stand at your shooting station, the outside world seems to vanish. In front of you is only your target, and in your hands is a piece of precision engineering. Your feet should be about shoulder-width apart, with a slight bend in the knees and your body weight leaning slightly forward. We will teach you how to let the shot surprise you. Once you hear the report and feel the recoil, a sense of achievement will wash over you. After the Smoke Clears
Once you have fired your last round, the process is not quite finished. Your instructor will perform a final safety check on the firearm to ensure it is completely clear and safe. Only then can you remove your hearing protection and glasses. Most of our guests choose to take their targets home as a souvenir. It is a great way to remember your first shots and to track your progress if you decide to take up shooting as a regular hobby.
